I just lost my job

because of the economic crisis. Just got the news, my contract ends in 1 month. 2 years ago it would be a great excuse to go on a bender and feel sorry about myself.

Now I won't give in to my AV and come out of it stronger. Drinking is never the solution.

Sorry, had to vent.

Sorry about you job loss.

Great to hear that that didn't send you off the deep end.

Stay strong, some thing will come up for you.

Sorry to hear about this Geralt, it's never a good time.

Glad to see you're keeping strong through this and vented on here rather than reaching for a bottle. Good for you pal!

I have found that when on door shuts, another one is open and it's better than the last.

Kudos for not drinking, you're right, it never makes anything better.

I'm sorry to hear that too. I've been under the shadow of a layoff for a couple months, and my wife has been out of work for almost a year. The stress has had me thinking about drinking, but I've been strong and ride the impulse out.

Wishing you luck.

Sorry to hear about your job but I agree 100% with MsBubbles. Maybe you will find a new job that brings you something wonderful. Congrats on staying strong.

Sorry to hear this Geralt. Times are tough in the Netherlands (I lived and worked there for 2 years). You are so right: drinking is never the solution. Who needs to be laid off AND hungover? Congratulations on saying no to the AV.

Good things are to come. I'm sorry to hear of this. We never know what is around the corner. Glad to know that drinking is not the solution.

Sorry. It's really hard in the US too, getting a halfway decent job. Northlander, I LOVE your dog. I wanna give him a big hug. A dog would be really helpful for me.

Also Gerault, your quote -Hard work beats talent, when talent refuses to work hard!- is the best think I have hard in years. I'm talent that refuses to work hard (seems I'd rather booze), and then I get mad at people that are just terrible, but work hard at what they do and beat me at life.

Sorry again...

It must be very difficult for you, but I have a feeling (from what I have read of yours) that you will keep on pedalling hard Geralt :>) and this recession will not go on forever...

Wishing you all the best.

Yup....drinking never makes anything better. Sorry about the job loss, my brother in law was unemployed for over a year - it is stressful

Very sorry about your job, Geralt. Can you go watch the Tour of Flanders on Sunday and maybe Paris-Roubaix next week to cheer yourself up? Those are the two that I dream of one day watching alongside the cobbles.

Yeah that's a good idea, a bike ride early Sunday and then the Tour de Flanders

Sorry to hear about this. However, I'm really impressed with your strong resolve to not drink. Money issues have to be one of the biggest triggers. It's a short term fix, only to turn around and actually make the problem worse. More money out the door on booze and less energy in your "get up and go" to find that other job. Keep up that strong will! Something BETTER will come along. Blessings.

Glad you're not going to drink over this setback.

I hope your country offers some sort of unemployment compensation.

Best wishes for finding another job soon!

Oh Geralt, I am very sorry to hear that. I am also unemployed for similar reasons here in the US. This can be very frustrating, again I am sorry. Very glad to hear you are not "going on a bender" but celebrating your new challenges with sobriety. Best of luck, I know things will work out for you!

Unfortunately I can't use any unemployment benefits, as I have started my own small part-time business 2 months ago. I am teaching Dutch to Polish immigrants in the Netherlands. I had hoped that I would have more time to get that business started, while still working at my primary job. Now that the primary job will be gone, I will either have to find new clients for my teaching business faster or find another part-time job, which is quite difficult in this economy.

Thankfully I don't have a lot of expenses, so I should manage somehow.

Thanks a lot everyone for your support!

Proud of you for having a great attitude and not falling back on getting numb. All it does is add misery to an already difficult situation - I wish it hadn't taken me so long to get that!
I hope this leads to something even better happening in your life, Geralt.

I don't have a job either. In fact, I was laid off 3 times in a 2 year period. Yeah Eastman Kodak! I survived then and I'll do it again. It sucks no matter who you are. It sounds like you have a good start to moving forward. Northlander is right...he is always right
