Trust issues
Trust issues
I have trust issues....with myself. My bf is going out of town with a friend to watch a hockey game this Friday night and my son is with his father. Even after 4 months of sobriety I still do not trust myself to be left to my own thinking! In the majority...nope all....cases I would have my worse drinking episodes and horrible consequences due to blacking out when my bf was away and I would hit the bars on my own. Last time this happened I wound up in the hospital in intensive care with a bad head injury. At least I got sober! I contacted my parents and announced that I would be spending the night on Friday. I'm 46 and still need my parents to keep me from making bad decisions!
Now that's better, isn't it? And it's also true.
And kudos on FOUR MONTHS!!!
Soberclover, congratulations on four months! I am sure your parents will love the company so it’s a win-win weekend. Keep up the diligence and in time not drinking will become just as normal as drinking used to be!
I (and probably most of us) go through that--It can be depressing when you realize you can't trust yourself in certain situations. But you've made a plan to deal with it, and it will get easier to trust yourself.
Regarding your age and your parent's help: If you were 46 and had a serious medical condition that required some help would you view this situation in the same light? Probably not, but I do understand how you would feel the way you do.
Do what you have to do to stay sober, that's the important thing.

soberclover - I found that I was stronger than I ever knew. I had more integrity than I ever imagined too.
I know you'll find that out in time..keep moving forward
congratulations on 4 months!

Thank you everyone for the great feedback. I agree that it is better to look at it as being proactive and responsible vs. not trusting myself! We are planning on watching the movie Lincoln. It does feel good to not only have a plan but to be wise enough to make a plan!
