Question Question abt Alanon meetings, what is/not appropriate?

I went to my first Alanon meeting. I went a little early, to ask the group leader some questions abt how they work. Obviously, I'm new to these things & want to follow whatever rules there are & what is or isn't appropriate.

She told me 'this isn't the place for discussing your personal situation or getting advice.'

Huh???? Did I interpret these meetings wrongly? Aren't they actually for (among other things) trying to get input from others and to understand what is going on with your A - SA ?

So I sat there the whole time & didn't say a word. I don't know if I will go back.

What did the other people say at the meeting?

Do you want to share in that same way? It is not a place for discussing, and usually people don't comment on others' situations.

Al-Anon has the same 12 Steps as AA (slight word change).

Al-Anons work on themselves the same as AAs work on themselves.

All the best.

Sounds like you might want to try another meeting at another location (if possible). Also, is there an Al-Anon hotline that you could use to get questions answered?
