I can't quit without help!

I have been drinking daily for about 30 years.
My wife has also.
It is starting to effect our jobs and family life.
Any insight?

Welcome. I was a daily drinker too, and more on weekends. I dragged out drinking for far too long, in denial about the extent of my problem.

I credit my higher power with giving me a lucid moment and with utter clarity I saw where I was headed if I didn't quit for good.

I struggled in the beginning, but I quit and have been sober two and half years.

Does your wife want to quit too?

All I'll suggest is educate your self about alcoholism and the various ways to recover from the addiction. Then pick a method that suits you.

Is there are thread in respect of methods that newcomers can read? Or is it just a case of googling them?

There are some resources here:

More can be gleaned from reading a number of threads. And yes, googling is a great way to find out more information.

Have you visited the secular connections forum?

Welcome to SR Angryangel. I had been drinking for 30 yrs. when I first came here. I never dreamed I could live without alcohol, but I am now free from it's clutches. You can do it, too.

My job - and life in general - was greatly affected. I had gotten away with heavy drinking for years - but it started to take it's toll. I became completely dependent on it. I ended up with dui's and loss of respect at work, and with my family. It had to go. You can do this, Angel. I hope you'll keep talking to us.

Welcome.

I'm sober daily! And my life is so much better.

But I used to be a daily drinker for many years. Stick around here and keep reading and posting. You too can become a "daily sober" person as well.

My wife needs to quit also. She has been to detox. And started again. I want to drink so badly tonight.
