Never heard his music before but I like it - it's very much what I like.

Another soul taken too soon
RIP

i'd heard some of his stuff before, but i never really paid close attention or listened to an entire album. I've been checking stuff on youtube and a lot of it is very good. I'm gonna try and learn to play a version of the song i posted.

I liked his music too. That song Hold On Magnolia I liked a lot but it seems especially poignant now. Did I read correctly that he was only 39? I can't believe organ failure occurred at 39. Maybe I misread.

Anyway, regardless, it is a soulless addiction. It just takes. Indiscriminately.
Thanks for sharing this.

A short poignant blog, notice the author drinks "to" Molina.

Remembering Jason Molina, Singer-Songwriter : The New Yorker

Well not common at an early age not unheard of. Many of our friends also have complicating issues such as diabetes, hepatitis, obesity. Alcohol combined with drugs can be devastating to organs.

Thanks for posting this. I never heard of Jason Molina, but this is the type of music i listen to. (Well, more upbeat than "Hold On Magnolia", but Americana music is my fav).

Anyway, the New Yorker author stated
The online tributes to Molina focussed on his talent for coming clean about just how weary he was, and how he was less and less able, over time, to find solace in the prospect of love or hope or even personal equilibrium.

And that really hit me, knowing now about his alcoholism. Because that's the way it made me feel too. I felt really "weary" in my mid-late 30s, but i feel much better now in my mid-40s.
Why?
Well, it's hard for me not to think that depressing effects formed my "weariness", and my "hopelessness". Because that's the way i felt after 20+ years of regular drinking, weary & hopeless. And i kept looking for escape in drinking.
And when i stopped doing that, and took the very first steps in just staying with the feeling, instead of running from it, that allowed my body to cleanse itself of the alcohol chemicals over a very long time. And i feel differently now.

It's really sad Jason Molina died of organ failure. I wish it hadn't happened.
I try to learn something from everything, even tragedies. What else can we do with them but learn?
It's my opinion that drinking has a strong impact on our emotions and outlook on life, and that impact is to make life seem worse to an active drinker than it does to a non-drinker.

thx for posting this.
