Self Doubt

If there is one thing most of us alcoholics have in common it is low self esteem and self doubt. One of the hardest things I am having in my recovery is learning to love myself. I just turned 60 and my drinking started to spiral out of control about 5 years ago after I lost my job of 30 years. That is a story for another day though.

I am almost 5 months sober and have been at my new job for almost a year. I work as a paralegal for two attorneys, one of whom is very high maintenance. She never takes responsibility for her mistakes and it is always everyone else's fault. Her actions are really starting to affect me and how I think about myself. Today after a very stressful day, I stepped on the elevator to go home and instantly wanted a drink. Instead I went to a meeting and talked with my sponsor. I got some good tips from her on how to handle these situations but I would love to hear your thoughts.

How do you all handle periods of self doubt?
