I think/hope I finally understand

I am 54 and I have been drinking since I was 15 (I lived in France). The quantity has been going up and it was not uncommon for me to drink two bottles of wine per night. I never felt hammered but I certainly had trouble the next day, although I never drank in the morining. I also started experiencing atrial fibrillation. This week I decided to just take the plunge and quit. So far, I am on day three and I am feeling great except for a little fatigue. One nice side effect is that I am eating healthy and not greasy hangover food. I have been going to bed at a reasonable hour and waking up refreshed. Also, my heart rate is back at a reasonable beats per minute and may even be back in rythmn. Surprisingly, the biggest thing I have had to fear is fear itself. I just had to put one foot in front of the other. I realize I could fail but I am really enjoying sobriety. Who knew. Granted it's only day three but I have never put together this many days sober.

Hi. Well done! I love being sober, but I do relapse occasionally. I have been back sober for 7 days now and feel great. I had 9 months sober but then slipped for two months. Am feeling back on form now. the sleeping and eating are the best. But there is so much more to come. good luck. Keep going. Welcome to SR.

It's been fits and starts for you, too.tall. Hope this is the "true" start of your sober journey.

All the best.
