Sober, not somber
Birds chirp and it doesn't sound like an annoying symphony out my window.
Kids laughter floods my heart, instead of rips my head apart.
I can look you in the eyes, and me confident in my position.
I don't lie to you. I am not fake. I care about you, but I honestly care about me more. I want to help you, but I can't make you so anything.
I laugh at the tv, instead of secretly shaming myself inside my head over my actions of the night before.
I am at peace. I am content. I am stronger today than yesterday. Life isn't perfect, but it's better than it was.
I am genuine. I don't have an alterior motive.
I am simply sober, not somber.
Sobriety is like being reborn. A new excitement is upon us. It does require work, but it's different and more effective work that trying to pretend we are ok. It's real. It's rewarding, and it is SO worth it!
