I've found one of the delightful surprises about not drinking is . . . I'm happier sober than when I drank to get happy.

I have had so many surprises along the way. I quit 7 months ago and so far I have done things I wouldn't have done before.

Quit my stressful job, got my new dentures and even had lasik on my eyes. The most scariest one for me was the quitting drinking. I really didn't think I could do it, but I did. It gives me strength to know that I can do it and it gave me the ability to realize that I can do things if I set my mind to it.

I am so much happier now than I ever was!

One of the delightful surprises about not drinking for me, is that, rather then feeling shame telling others I don't drink I feel pride.

And instead of feeling deprived I can't drink, more and more, I feel relieved I can't drink.

Relieved to be completely removed from the dilemma and the struggle.
Relieved that my decision is made and in every situation my answer is no.
What a relief that is!

One of the delightful surprises about being sober for 6 months is that I DON'T MISS DRINKING at all!

A delightful surprise that I'm having a year out is that living life is not a burden, as I'd felt it was when drinking. Living life is a privilege.

There's something about crawling your way out of that pit that makes you so grateful to be even allowed to try again.

Before when drinking I'd given up on life, and given up on myself.

My delightful surprise, is that even though I'd turned my back on life, life did not turn its back on me.
