Made it past week 1
Week 1 - what I realized:
- I feel a lot better than I did a couple weeks ago. Not waking up with a hangover is nice.
- When at a family party, got offered alcohol and said "no thanks"...Nobody asked questions, looked at me funny for not drinking, made fun of me, laughed, nothing. I was worried about this. I decided I am not going to explain to people that I have stopped drinking, and realized that it does not bother other people. Why was I nervous about this???
- not drinking has made me think A LOT about the past, looking back at how stupid and careless I have been towards my health and life in general. I also look forward to getting in good shape.
-The biggest realization is that this website and its members are wonderful. All of you. Everyone came here because they want to be better people and to live a better life. I have seen a trend (myself included) where we cared so much for others and let the stresses around us take over and coped with it through alcohol. I for one am going to slow down and take time to help myself first. I have been reading this website non stop and it gives me a lot of comfort and strength to stay sober.
- Last but not least, that if I made it over one week sober, why not another.
Thank you,
Jay

Wow thats alot for a week!
I was still in a lock in treatment facility. Truth is if I were offered alcohol on day 7, Im sure I would not have been strong enough to say No Thanks.
That is awesome. Sounds like you are really ready to get & be sober!
Congrats on 1 week!!!

WelcomeMA! Congrats too. I vividly remember my first sober family dinner holiday, Easter Sunday. I built this up so much in my head...what i would say, do, yada yada....
No one said boo, or asked intrusive questions... i brought a bottle of Perrier and a box of fancy tea...and the normies had some too.
I used to carry lemon herbal tea bags in my purse...everyone can give me a cup of hot water..
My friends would say "oh that looks good".

Well Done
I think you are amazing. Keep it up. Remember one day at at a time.
I have been sober now for 16 years and each day when I wake up I thank God for my sobriety and for another day to enjoy life with out worry or fear. God Loves you and will always look after you.
I have just put up a new Face Book Page on Alcohol Concern to help us Alcoholics. It's called Alcohol Concern
