Work trips .....
I used to have a job which involved a lot of travelling and staying in hotels and I totally agree that it is the worst situation, especially if you spend your evenings alone. What else are you going to do but drink?
One thing I found which helped me was to keep my hands occupied. So instead of watching a film and drinking my bottle of wine, I watched the film and occupied my hands with embroidery (actually cross-stich). This also used to work on airplanes.
Sketching would be another suggestion.
