Early Service

So I have chosen to take the AA root to aid my quest for sobriety. I have 19 days today after a 32 day try earlier in the year. I was just asked to chair the local saturday evening mens meeting. For some reason I kind of view this as an honor and am kind of excited/nervous about the responsibility. Kind means I have to stay sober for a while! I almost said no just because that responsibility was so intimidating (the staying sober) but I think it will be beneficial.

ddrayer, that is the great thing about making commitments, they keep us sober. Good for you, there will be people that will be so grateful for whatever you share. Good luck!!

If you commit to AA it will lead to quality sobriety.

All the best.

Firstly congratulations.

I would urge just a tiny bit of caution in that I feel that you need to be ready to ditch a service commitment if you feel under any sort of pressure. You sobriety needs to come first. Sure, get to meetings early and help out every time if you can. And hang about at the end to do the same but I do sometimes wonder if in the early days its more than enough to just get along on a regular basis.

However its just an opinion and I sense I am in the minority but well done and enjoy the chair. For me thats not really a service position but just a chance to share and even people with only a days sobriety have something to offer.
