Hi Saintsman, welcome to SR.
If you browse around the forums you will find that SR is a real goldmine of information. Its helped lots of people, including me. Keep reading and posting, you'll find ideas for change here, but at the end of the day only you can make those changes.
Good luck!

Sure Saintsman - there's loads of info here. Sometimes the best advice comes when you share a little bit about yourself and your situation. Do you think you'd be able to share about your drinking habits and how/why you want to change them? It's a great first step to getting things going in the right direction.
Good on you for stopping by and posting, you have the right idea, congrats!

Welcome Saintsman. You will find tons of people here who have done exactly that. My suggestion is to start be reading and posting here. There is a 'class' thread here for each month. Go find the February thread and introduce yourself. Glad you are looking to make a change. It is a change worth making.

Thanks everyone, I guess I've been coming to the slow realization over the past few months that I have a drinking problem.
I don't drink everyday but when I do get on it, I drink to excess and then end up doing things I regret.
For example in the past six months I have lost my driving license, falling back into bad habits and had constant rows with mates.
The DUI as they call it over the pond was particularly harrowing and I'm lucky not to have died!
I'm not one to wallow in self pity so I'm going to be pro-active and start a fresh.
Do you recommend 12 Steps or is it best just to change your own habits?

Welcome saintsman!
I was unable to change my habits....tried for a long time, and things got considerably worse while I was trying. AA ended up working for me. There are other ways to stay sober, and lots of people here who can help you figure out which one you want to start with.
