Hi Del

Your best bet is to check out the Secular Connections forum here - there's a wealth of information down there:

Google the Crash course Del. It's a short overview on the Rational Recovery website and it really helped me get past those first few days of sobriety, and the rest!

There are lots of threads on the Secular Connections forum about AVRT and other cognitive type recovery methods including a long running AVRT discussion thread with over 2000 posts.

Here is one person's experience with AVRT. http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...ined-long.html

Depending on your personality and such it's worth checking out for sure. I picked up the book Rational Recovery yesterday and really like the concepts behind it.

It's yet one another of those pesky acronyms, but AV means addictive voice. It's your amygdala speaking, and it has no knowledge of you, or any concern if you live or die. It's the part of your brain that just wants more, regardless of the results of previous experiments.

Mice with electrodes in their brains that activate their pleasure centers will push a button to activate it over and over until they die of starvation, ignoring food and all other considerations.

Keeping the dopamine at baseline is a challenge I'm still working on. I've abused my dopamine level for decades, so stuff like going shopping for food... it's gonna take me a while before that seems normal, rather than wanting to abscond as fast as possible.

Thanks all.....I have read up on it also,I find it appealing....anything that helps me
I am very logical about most things and for this I'm glad I found AVRT,there are some questionable statements but then again where isn't there??
I'm glad I found several sites that will help in different ways... I don't mind once it makes me understand and more importantly STAY sober :) :)
I intend to use every available source once I feel and see it working i.e stay sober
Good night all; 5 days sober woo hoo

As you have learned at this point already, Del, it is you that does the work in getting and staying sober, not some program or technique. AVRT shows you how to do it, and it also teaches you that you are able to choose to be sober, and sober for good.

Good question & responses! Thanks all

I find a broad combination of recovery tools such as with AVRT, DBT, CBT, Agnostic AA, SR and Zen ... plus other healthy cognition/behavior control that makes sobriety worthy.

:) Keep on keeping on with your sobriety journey.
