Going to detox
After talking to my doctor. I was advised i had 2 options to stop drinking i with out risk of chances of horrible withdrawal. A) come up with a drinking schedule where i can only drink at certian times and taper off over 2 weeks. Being a good drunk i am i would be wasted by night fall. So not a option. B) go into a detox center.... Doc said no way he could give me the drugs to go through withdrawal based on past experience with detox(over 6mg of ativan in 5 hours) Could knock out a horse. So having a friend pick me up to take me to a detox center. Scared ******** but glad at same time.
Great step going to see the doc and be honest about it all. Sounds like you have a pretty good handle on knowing the steps you need to take as well, big step admitting that you need to move on to Detox. Sounds scary for sure, but it's all about helping you get better. Best of luck and hopefully you can let us know how things are going.
I second the motion! Yes, it's v scary going into a detox - let alone a full rehab programme. Having said that: which is more scary - to possibly have a seizure / heart attack from withdrawal at home, OR to NOT have to endure that chance because you're in a medically-controlled environment?
I've done both: 10 day detox, in late 2009; 30 day rehab (including detox) last Jan. Because I've relapsed lately, I know full well that I may well have to check myself into even just a few days detox in coming weeks if I keep drinking. To this end, I've even (grumpily) just now paid online my next quarter of health insurance, simply so that option is there for me.

Coldfusion made a good point too, about follow up, after you've come out of detox.
Really consider that: God knows, it's hard enough staying sober once you've detoxed or even done a long rehab, once you're back in the 'real world'. Living sober, staying sober, in ordinary life, is almost the Holy Grail - depending on your personality / family and friends, etc etc etc etc, you may well need ongoing support.
Some snort at the notion of 'support' of whatever kind; but hey, if you can call or have access to even a couple of people (let alone professionals / AA / SMART / WFS / WHATEVER 'programmes'), don't do what I've done and continue to snort at just pickin' up the phone.
We still have to stay sane (ish) as best we can in this mad world, drinkers or not!
