Antabuse
Hi All
I had a workmate come out yesterday and tell us he had a problem with alcohol. He openly admits to having 2-3 drinks a night whilst on Antabuse tablets.
After googling Antabuse today I'm pretty well convinced that you can't drink and take these tablets. When I asked him about it he said he was in a "controlled program" where he can still have a few to drink and take his tablet daily.
I'm I right in thinking that he is probably not taking the tablets or is there such a program?
Thanks

Why does it matter so much to you?
Are you just trying to get one over on him by doing some research and proving his story is BS? Or, are you concerned that the person is in denial, messing around with a serious program, harming themselves?
What is the point?
Yes, an alcoholic can and will drink on antibuse.
The purpose of antibuse is that the physical reaction to drink will be so unpleasant as to prevent the drinker from drinking.
That is why alcoholics can skip a dose if they want to drink.
Often, they have a designated person to supervise them taking the pill so they can't cheat.
He/she can tolerate the discomfort of the reaction, to have their few drinks.
Obviously, the goal would be to not drink at all.
Maybe you should go to his next doctor's appointment with him to clarify all your concerns.

Well, then you answered my question.
You see denial.
You are concerned.
Talk to him.
Suggest AA or an alternative program.
It is very frustrating when you see someone conning themselves and others.
Sorry, reading back, I was a bit harsh.
