a message from future me..
a message from future me..
Congratulations Jim.
You finally realized you cannot win this battle alone. You've reached out to others and checked into Detox. You've finally come clean with your wife, family and friends, and you've found them more supportive than you could ever comprehend.
You have felt the weight of the world come off your shoulders just by finally admitting to yourself "I can't do this anymore, I need help"
You found people just like you in the halls of AA. Some with stories worse than yours, some with stories very similar. People who want to help you, because they have the same disease, and they know there is a cure.
You've found a new sense of peace and purpose, now that your dirty secret has been exposed to the light. You've let go of the shame and regret. You've made your amends and fixed your mistakes.
You've found the world is a beautiful place once you took the goggles off. Filled with beautiful sights and sounds and even more beautiful people.
You've found joy and contentment helping newcomers like you were just a short time ago. You want to let them know there's a great future to be had, once they admit it's time.
You know you will never walk alone again, and you can finally be the person God wants you to be.
These 2 years have flown by. Yes, it's been challenging at times, especially early on, but it truly does get easier, and it truly does get better.
I'll be forever grateful you took that first step.

Caihong-
I wrote this today with benefit of hindsight, and yes this is how it's happened for me.
I'd like to let the newcomer know how fast their life can change for the better by just asking for help.
For me, that first step was the most difficult one, but I'm sure glad I took it.
