Bad thoughts...

I was a semi-active poster a little while ago before deciding I didn't have a drinking problem and moving on.

To those who know and remember me, hey! To those who don't, hi!

I've had no real problems with or doubts about my decision until tonight. On friday I went for a pint with some friends, just hanging, nothing much. Having nothing planned for the rest of the weekend, and remembering I had most of a 750 of Jaeger left in the fridge, I decided to lounge about and do Jaegerbombs all weekend long.

So drank about half of it saturday, half of it sunday and had a tiny bit left that I finished when I got home from school today. To be honest, it was fun, but now I'm drinking linden tea before getting ready for bed and having bad thoughts.

Thoughts like:
- Do normal drinkers go through that much Jaeger on an uneventful solitary weekend?
- Is it healthy to drink 600ml of Jaeger and 3L of Monster in two days?
- Is it a productive use of my life to watch reruns, dick around on OkCupid and binge on junk food for two days straight?

That last one is my favorite. I'm a bit bummed out and confused right now, but I wanted to write this down before I go to bed and forget about it. Sorry about the novel.

Wish I'd been back with a more upbeat post though...

You're right, #3 is a hard question to answer. Being a life-wasting slacker was kinda cool a few years ago but I'm starting to be genuinely unhappy with the rut I've dug myself into. I'm still not sure if the alcohol is the problem or just a side effect.

In any case, I guess today was day 1.

I wasn't sure either, but removing alcohol helped me make something of myself, SG.

I don't know what normal drinkers do...I never was one. But I don't think normal drinkers have to convince themselves they don't have a drinking problem and when they prove to themselves that they do have a problem, they don't rationalize it. They quit.

Abnormal drinkers keep on keeping on, despite all the evidence to the contrary. Welcome back.

A "normal" drinker begins to "feel it" and decides to stop, according to my "normal drinking friends."

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism suggest for men no more than 4 drinks on any given day (what constitutes a drink is on their website) and no more than 14 drinks in one week. For women, it's no more than 3 per day and no more than 7 drinks per week.

What do you think about your drinking practices?

You just described the last 10 years or so of my drinking.

So grateful to be sober today.

Welcome back someguy, stick around!
