Hi

Hi my Name is Tony and iv been drink heavily for 5 years to curb my depression and anxiety, I also have Emetaphobia ( Fear of Vomit ) and in the last week iv decided to cut right down on alcohol, Only having a couple of cans of lager and a couple of glasses of wine, But starting to feel slightly nervous in my stomach and some depressing thoughts. Has anyone else suffered with anything like this. Thanks.

Hello Tony

Welcome to our family.

Have you sought professional help for your phobia?
It is something I have heard about and I have a friend that suffers.

I understand drinking heavily to try and self medicate when you are scared of something, have a phobia, feel a certain way.
I have done it myself.
However, it took a long time to realise that I was making the problem worse.

Why not read around and post?
There is a lot of knowledge and wisdom here.

Welcome! If you want to quit drinking, this is a great place to hang out! There are lots of people with good sobriety and a lot of resources to figure out a plan of action to stay sober.

Welcome to SR Tony

Sasha's question is a good one - have you sought professional help at all regarding the phobia?

have you ever sought help about your drinking?

Welcome to SR Tony

I had a lot of nauseous feelings when I was giving up drinking but I was never actually sick, unlike the years I was drinking

Have you spoken to a doctor. Perhaps it'd be a good time to address both the drinking and your depression issues.

Glad you're here x

Hey Tony,

Welcome to the forums. I'm just going to echo what other people have said. Reducing your alcohol intake is obviously a good thing. I would say that the depression/anxiety may have something to do with withdrawal symptoms but I'm not a doctor. I would strongly recommend you go and see one if you feel the need too.

Natom.
