Trying again. Day 1.

After many failed attempts at sobriety, I'm trying again. Today. After another week of heavy drinking and a giant bruise on my arm after falling and knocking over a table yesterday, I took an antabuse this afternoon and am going to an AA meeting in about an hour.

I am scared, anxious, excited, got a bad case of the shakes. And really worried about filling free time with something other than alcohol. Planning to spend a lot of time on this site. Wish me strength. Thanks.

Go Curly!! I'm 20 days sober (again)....
It's nice to have no bruises, no trying to piece the night before together, remembering what I promised to do the next day, no guilt, .......
When I get bored, it's tough....but I think hard on how the hangovers felt! I DON'T want them anymore......no thanks!!
SR open 24/7......

Trying again. Day 2.

Made it to a really great meeting last night. Hardly slept, but that's typical. Now taking inventory of the ways my body is adjusting to being sober. Actually, it's still getting sober, most likely. But yesterday's shakes have lightened up a bit, every muscle in my body doesn't hurt today and my head is de-fogging some. Still no energy, but I guess that's not surprising. Now, just gotta figure out how to keep myself occupied all day (sleep would be nice), go to another meeting and make today okay.

This is exactly how I felt when I finally quit for good, so as far as I'm concerned, that's all very good news. Also glad to see you back again today. Six days is solid—we can learn a lot about ourselves and our addiction in six days. Any thoughts on what else you could do? Maybe double-down on the meetings, get some phone numbers of folks you can call, look into starting the step work and all that? I'm not in AA, but whatever route someone goes, I think it needs a full-court press in the first few weeks...

I found that when I was wrestling with cravings and fears and doubts, it helped to pop on SR and post about it. You're still in time to join the January class—you'd find plenty of daily, even hourly support there.

Persistence is the most important thing of all, and you obviously have that. Way to go coming back. You're going to break free of this—and you're going to be incredibly grateful you made the effort.

Keep at it and keep posting...

Maybe prepare yourself better next time and arrange for some support from AA members via the phone or family to sit with you when you're at home the first several days.

It helped me to watch some funny movies and for some reason eating cold stuff seemed to take the edge off of the shakes and anxiety for short periods...ice cream, Popsicles and plenty of ice cold water and Gatorade.

Get some good reading material lined up to take your mind off of yourself.
