First day
My last drink was on weds night. My first internet search about needing help was 1 hour ago. I thought I was gonna need a drink just to finish the dang registration. Don't know our many times I pushed the refresh button so they knew I wasnt some spam bot. I've never asked for help. I saw a doctor once to get a blocker. Its easy to get around that...just don't take them. I tried the shot, then I never went back for the second one. My mind wants a quick easy fix. There is none. But after a night of drinking..I hate the look of the person staring back at me. I call her mean names. I don't want to live like that anymore.
I'm glad you reached out today. I can totally relate to "not wanting to ask for help"..... I don't like doing that at all, and I really thought I could handle my drinking if I just tried a little harder. I was always going to drink differently
"next time," and it never worked...... I couldn't follow through and my drinking only got worse.
It's great that you haven't had a drink since Wed...... congratulations! I think you'll find a lot of support here. That's what finally enabled me to get sober. We just can't do this on our own.:ghug3

Hi again. Here's a little link that does a very good job of explaining what to expect at your first AA meeting. Check it out. It takes a lot of the mystery out of the idea of going.
Hello Asp - welcome!
I've never been to a meeting either. Some can do the meetings, I'm not that comfortable with it. I considered it until I found SR. Here, I can reach out 24-7 to people with the same problem I have: alcohol.
Seek help if you need it. I'm glad you're here! You will find a lot of support!

A lot of people worry about running into someone they know at a meeting. It's a little awkward the first time it happens, but once you realize they are there for the same reason you are, it dissipates pretty quickly. Anyone who is in recovery for any length of time has the utmost respect for others who are doing the same thing. Plus anonymity is taken VERY seriously. I have been around AA for 33 years (since first husband got sober), I've been in AA (and sober) for four and a half years, and I can truthfully say I have never heard (even anecdotally) about anyone experiencing a negative consequence as a result of anyone seeing them at an AA meeting.
Asp, AA is supposed to be Anonymous so they can't/shouldn't say anything if they see you there, and furthermore, don't you think that if you saw them, they would want you to do the same?
I'm glad you shared what was going on with you, believe me, most of us have been there, you are not alone here.
You could try a meeting, you don't have to sit in the first row, you can even sit in back. YOU DON'T have to share, you can just sit and listen.
Welcome. :ghug3

More than being a falling down drunk ?
Give the meetings a fair try. Listen to the oldtimers and try not to judge, tear apart and condemn.
Going to your first meeting might just be your lucky day. I was mine.
All the best.

LexiCat - thanks for the link on AA! I have it bookmarked. I admit, I am nervous about going to a meeting.
tomndallas - I din't know there were meetings on-line. I will have to check this out.
Thank you both so much!
