Can't or Don't?

I am a newbie. This is the morning of day 19 without alcohol in my life.

I downloaded some torrents, yeah bad me good thing I am in Canada, and listened to one on the way to work a few days back.

It was, Anthony Robbins. Now he could be a skit on Saturday Night Live, especially with his intro music, but he said something that stuck. I am paraphrasing here.

You should not go through your life saying I "can't". When you say that you take away your power of self determination. Instead use the word "Don't".

I have been running "I can't drink" through my head for many days now.

The other day I replaced it with "I don't drink.". For me this was much better. It feels more complete, final, and it does feel more powerful.

Hopefully this will help another.

Can't is a horrible word. I use don't a lot. I could drink or use drugs but if I do that then I can't live a proper life.

I use both.

I can't drink anymore, so I don't drink...ever.

I use both also. I have found that I don't drink anymore because I cant stop once I start. May be admitting that I am powerless to alcohol, but after all ONE STEP AT A TIME.

Hi 9years! J like your post... I listened to "the secret" about a year ago and it really helped me with some stuff I had been dealing with.its all about taking out the negatives
Instead of saying I can't drink you say, I choose to lead a sober healthy life.
Instead of using can't and negatives always take the positive approach to things. Its very inspiring and also talks a lot on how we treat ourselves and.P eople around us.
Thanks for the post! Happy Saturday
