Snowed off work with a massive urge to drink.....

Well its arrived,

The bubble has burst and the urge to drink is back.

I'm NOT going to do it though.

What do people do to resist.

Bruno.

Literally anything except drink. (Not something unhealthy, of course). That leaves you with a lot of options. =)

I know exactly how you feel...as in "so much for the afterglow." I think these are the moments to take it truly one day at a time and they will pass...you must trust in that. Peace to ya.

I reckon subconsciously your mind had already prepared for this. You knew the snow was coming and your addictive voice or whatever you wanna call it starts coming into play. You can try and sit own for 5 mins when you get an urge and think about all of the bad consequences as a result of your drinking. Failing that you just have to keep majorly busy. Can you ddo any work from home?

Felt like this a few times over the last year, not so much now, cravings seem to have gone somewhere lol.

Firstly, what will drinking achieve ? What difference will it make to your life apart from ending the cravings . See the cravings for what they are, nothing more than your av begging for its fix, ride the cravings, see it as a game surf them , they come in waves and do pass. They will not hurt or harm you. Never give in, be bored stare at a wall do whatever, for tomorrow you will be stronger than today. Good luck.

I always drank alone at home. Initially when I was giving up, I used to get out of the house and do anything - go for a walk, go to the cinema, wander round IKEA. Anything to distract myself until the urge passed. Obviously a bit harder for you to do when it's snowing. I also ate tons of food because I was less inclined to drink when I was stuffed full of food! Whatever you can do to get to bed tonight without a drink, do it.

Thank you for all of the replies,

I've just picked the kids up from school as their school is closed due to the snow and we've luckily just got home.

The snow is really bad and we are now officially snowed in. Which isn't a bad thing.

What I'll be doing today instead of drinking is warming the kids up, wrapping up warm and then going for an afternoon of sledging.

Thanks again,

Bruno.

Its a blizzard here, I've not seen anything like it for years. Probably since I was a kid myself.

I accept that I do not drink. The craving is powerless, as alcohol is no longer an option in my life.

I would not likely succeed without that acceptance.
