WARNING! My annonimity has been compromised here.
Do not use your regular email address here. Someone Googled my email address and found me on this and the AA forum. Plus I was stupid for putting my own pic up as my avatar. I never knew they could find you that way.
Hmm, I never knew that, but I googled my email address and found nothing from SR... I did change it to my AKA email address... and googled that, still nothing. Hopefully an Admin will be along and address this...
I have been tempted to use my real picture, but I can't risk breaking anonymity any more than I already do participating in this forum. I just try to say as little specific details as reasonably possible and also post as if someone I knew IRL might actually read the 6000 plus posts... LOL... Hey, have at it if you are that interested...

I just got a text massage with a screen shot of one of posts on here. When I asked how they found me they said they googled my email address, I just changed my avatar and changed my email address that I rarely use.ed
Before I changed my email I googled it also and came up with nothing either.

I also looked up my email address and I found nothing.
Are you sure it's not the Username you are using, "ghostman1960"?
I would definitely let Dee of one of the other moderators know ASAP.
I'm sorry this has happened to you.

Why would someone google your email address, and let you know what they found? That's weird! It's a public website, if you want complete anonymity I would use a throwaway email address and select a user name that is really anonymous to you, the mods can help you change it. I (obviously) have a picture of myself on here, we all have different feelings about remaining anonymous or not Hope you stick around!!

any image you post on the web (on a non-secure site) can be found by tineye. finding you by e-mail seems odd, but via your personal image i could see it happening, if you've used that same pic elsewhere. be careful and good luck!

Yeah...That is kind of weird....I guess if someone wanted to find out if I was in recovery or not...They could just hang out in the parking lot where meetings are held near my house. Everyone I know....Knew I was a drunk anyway...I never hid that. They must have figured out I'm doing something different.
Mine only turned up Facebook. Wonder if this person was bluffing you? I can't figure out why anyone would do what they did--and then tell you about it that way. Maybe their intentions were good, but I totally get your point. I'm sorry, Ghostman.

I think it is awfully easy to "leave the door open"...
Try not to let this get you down, sh1t happens... get recovered, you know! It is better to be known as someone who is trying to make their life, and the lives of their loved ones, better than an active alcoholic or addict.
And if that person stalks you, or harasses you, try to let it go, it's his problem, not yours.
Maybe start a whole new account... I changed my username, not for anonymity, but because I didn't like it and I didn't realize how central a role SR would become in my recovery.... There are some traces of my old username associated with my new one, but it really doesn't matter to me, but it might to you.
