self will run riot

I am having trouble with the the phrase self-will run riot. I was told to give examples in life of self will run riot. Can anybody help me think of a few?

Doing things my way...Like being given the choice by my ex wife that it was alcohol or her...Guess which one I chose? I lost a wonderful woman...Self will didn't work to well for me.

Yeah, pretty much keep running into trouble, knowing it's going to get you into even worse trouble, but you just keep on going... No matter, what, who, where... people, places, things.

Every decision, when I looked deeply and was honest, was based on self-service. Even if it appeared to help others or be "in my best interest". Every. Decision.

That's about a million examples!

Name the situations where you knew better, but decided something such as "I don't care what the consequences are, I'm doing this anyway."

Every decision you made in your life that got you to the point where you are posting this question.

All the best.

self will run riot

I am understanding this more and more to be child like behaviour that I have never grown out of. All about doing what the cravings tell me instead of something more useful to serve my higher power.

Google and read AA's "The Doctors Opinion". It's quite enlightening.

All the best.

This about sums it up for me....

"Selfishness--self-centeredness! That, we think, is the root of our troubles. Driven by a hundred forms of fear, self-delusion, self-seeking, and self-pity, we step on the toes of our fellows and they retaliate. Sometimes they hurt us, seemingly without provocation, but we invariably find that at some time in the past we have made decisions based on self which later placed us in a position to be hurt."
