Ten days sober - can't get snough sleep

Is this common? I'm probably sleeping 12-14 hours a day. Is it my body getting used to no alcohol?

When I stopped using cocaine I slept pretty much solidly for two weeks. That was because I had spent so much of my time being awake. Sleeping is a good thing. Especially when you are withdrawing.

My body enters in this healing process and sleep is what heals it for the most part.
Just wait until after the month is up-hopefully you will be caught up and healed, then the real awakening begins. Good job on 10 days!

I think I slept through early sobriety.

I wish I could sleep that much! Only on day 4 here though, still having problems falling asleep initially.

Same here. I can't sleep well at night. Then sleep in the day. I feel utterly exhausted - almost like I am getting the flu.

I am on leave from work but already feel anxious about when I have to regulate my sleep and go back.

Doctor said it's normal but to try, after about 10 days, to get back into the swing of life since apparently depression often can take hold.

In early recovery i slept about 10 - 12 hours a "night" except for one night per week , usualy sundays nights when i hardly sleep at all . This has been true all my working life though so i just accept it .

My father drank a 5th of crown a night for 20 years. He finally stopped 6 months ago and he says he still has a hard time sleeping and he swears its from years of alcohol abuse. Hope this helps

First 30-60 days of sobriety I slept 12+ hours a night and was still tired the next day.

I was exhausted for 2 months. I'm always tired from being a night owl that is forced to get up early but early sobriety had me worn out to the max. Finally after that normal energy returned. I think if I started exercising again I might have real energy soon

I envy you!
I can't fall asleep and then have to wake up early... running on 4-5 hours for the past 3 days. Can't wait until the weekend...

I couldn't fall asleep much for the first few days. Worst nightmares of my life too.

Due to no sleep, I would get exhausted and finally pass out for so long. It was like constant jet lag or something, but without the time zone changes...the body adjusts though.

The day or two after quitting, I slept for 17 hours and 14 hours, respectively. Then, about 11 hours the next night, and last night was about 8 or 9 hours.

I also had VERY vivid dreams, with multiple layered plot lines and very realistic imagery. Must be all that dopamine returning.
