making a promise

sorry for my english. I'm from western Europe, i'm a male in my late twenties, have a college degree, work in a swimmingpool. My intrests are right wing polical extremism and history in general.

I promise not to drink any alcohol anymore. Every time when i start drinking i can't stop. I just drink and drink. I can't drink 2 beers. I have to continue, can't stop. When i start drinking beer, i drink it like it's water.

I only have 1 drinking session a week, but when i do, i can't stop, it brings me in dangerous situations. If i start at a bar, i continue untill deep in the night, completely drunk.

Yesterday i had an extreme hangover. Had to throw up all day, and stay in bed. Making this topic to remind myself not to fall again in the trap of alcohol. My mind will play tricks on me in a couple weeks, i'm sure, but i have this post to remind myself. I can't drink 1 beer, because 1 beer = a gazillion beers for me. It's an affliction, a disease.

I hope i can learn from others here, on how to stay on the wagon. Do you have any reading tips?

Welcome WWYD777.

I'm the same way - no such thing as just one for me. Once it hit my system anything could happen. Often I put myself in danger, and turned into a person I didn't recognize. That's why I had to make the decision to not touch it.

We're so glad you found us. Being here will help you stick to your plan. Congratulations on making this decision.

Welcome!
I spent a lot of time all over your beautiful country from 1990-1997! Drinking beer the whole time. Those were my early days of alcoholism. You can do this. Keep posting your English is quite good.
Bedankt voor het posten hier!

Welcome, WWYD, glad you found us.

You've asked for a reading list, and there is a lovely thread that has a varied and impressive but by no means exhaustive list. http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...rituality.html

One is too many, and a thousand never enough. You got your choice of recovery reading. AA, AVRT, SMART, Rational Recovery. They're the main players. You can get more info on them from google or through specific sections on this forum.

Good Luck,

Natom
