Finally!!

Hello everyone,
Today is the first day of the rest of my life!
I am an alcoholic and have been for about 10 years. I never thought I would say or ever admit this to myself or anyone else. I am a closet alcoholic and chose to get drunk by myself in the comfort of my own house. Vodka was my choice of poison.
It scares me to see how this disease progresses. I used to have just a few drinks on the weekend, then it turned into a few at night, then morning shots of vodka on weekends and keeping a steady glow on for the entire day. Finally, last week when I finished 2 40 oz bottles of vodka in 3 days - I had a reality check. If I don't quit, I'm going to lose my marriage and eventually die.
I have been wanting to quit for quite sometime, but always had an excuse. I knew I was lying to myself everytime - my wife knew it to.
Back in October of 2012, I committed to stop on January 5th, 2013.
I invested in an expensive detox/rejuvenation kit and started it today.
I've been reading posts on this website for a few months and I really found comfort to know that I wasn't alone with dealing with this.
Anyways, I'm one day sober!! Looking forward to a better life!!

Welcome Vinny.

Its nice to have you join our family.

It does progress quick and luckily you have your family still with you.
I come here most days.
I post and read.
I learnt a lot about addiction and alcohol.
I have managed to get 327 days together of sober time and I now feel proud of myself.

Be careful. Any scary symptoms from stopping drinking, don't hesitate to get them checked out will you?

I wish you all the luck in the world!

Welcome Vinny!

Good for you on getting sober! I put if off for way too long, too, just let my fear talk me out of it. When I finally stopped thinking and started doing, things started getting better. Glad you've joined us!:welcome

Vinny, congratulations on making a good decision which will only make your life better. Vodka was my DOC too..and like you, it just kept getting worse and worse... Sober life is so much easier, than the hiding, secrets, cost, and stupid things I did drunk.. Good luck..
