Hi I am new

I had my last drink on new years eve so it is now day 3 of being sober.

I was worse before I had the children, hubby and i went out and I got ratted on vodka every night. We would go out at 7pm and I would have 2 double vodkas to husbands pint and rarely had memory after 8.30 pm. It led to falling asleep/passing out during sex, arguing and nearly suffocating by throwing up on myself whilst led in bed! (I can't believe I put that) the last bit happened again recently. So ashamed of myself.
I stopped immediately I found out I was expecting. They saved me. Now they are 4! (twins)
I went onto wine after they were born. I did not drink every day but more than half the days of the week were ended by 2 bottles of wine and sometimes with vodka too?

I was diagnosed with depression shortly after one of the children were diagnosed autistic. I told the gp then that I felt I had a drinking problem and he said "well cut it down then"!!!!
I could really do with some support and if I can help anyone else that would be great too.

welcome! Every time I see a post like yours I feel like celebrating! with a nice tea of course ;-)
Believe me, your depression should decrease without Alcohol and you will be able to face the challenges of raising your children with a clear mind.

glad you joined us!

Welcome to SR Lisa

You'll find lots of support here and plenty of ideas to help you stay stopped. I'd recommend joining the Class of January thread if you want ongoing support from people who quit the same time as you...

Glad you're here x

Hi Lisamum

I am UK too.
I'm glad you found us.

Don't ever be ashamed of what you write, I and others have done the same and much worse too!!

The good thing though is you never have to feel that bad again. Just avoid that first drink, then you cannot get drunk.

I have 326 days today and I have done it by saying every morning 'today I am not going to drink, just today'. That way I don't feel like I am facing the rest of my life without a drink. It's always just one day.

I won't say it is easy.
I had to get busy.
I used to out baby to bed, then slump on the sofa, with my favourite glass in front of the television.
I got off the sofa, smashed my favourite glass, got busy and all those early days have stacked up to make 326.

It's not a magic wand that makes everything better.
Despite not drinking life still has plenty of ups and downs.
But I feel I cope with it better.
There is also less drama - the drunken rows, the mad panic of 'oh my god what did I do, what did I say?'
I think I am a nicer person as a result.

Look after yourself in the early days. Good food, lots of fluids, nice baths (without two four year olds jumping in) and rest.

Come here and post and read. I visit here everyday. It is where I learnt to stop drinking and learnt all I know about alcohol abuse.

I really wish you the very best. xxxx

I should tell you what happened to me just before my current period of sobriety. throwing up would be nicer. The thing about SR is you can be honest here. You have to face these demons before you can kill them.

Welcome to SR. You will need to be sober to raise your kids.

And congrats on your three days.

Hi Lisamum, welcome! SR is wonderful. I am a mom of a young daughter who is now 9. I was drunk for most of her childhood except for this last year. You will be and feel like a much better parent when sober.

One day at a time, this site and AA have gotten me through.

You can do it, and dont be ashamed of anything. we understand.

Now starting day 4. Kids seeming to wind me up very quickly this morning. Going with a friend to a farm today with our 3 kids 2 autistic 1 (for want of a better word) normal ( he is the most annoying constantly talking and started back chatting).

I will need a lot of strength to get through today. Plus friend does not yet know about quitting drinking.
