Bought a bottle of vodka, havn't touched it yet!

So tonight after returning home from holidays my husband was heading to the pub to get beer and I told him to get me a bottle of vodka. He came home with it and I have it in the freezer but havn't opened it. I just got that feeling in my gut when you know you are really gonna regret doing something (a conscience maybe) and couldn't shake it..

The longer I go without having one the easier it is getting..my husband is angry since he just paid 40 for the bottle but I just bluffed it off saying I didnt feel well and will drink it another time.

I can do this!

Lizard99 12-30-2012 02:02 AM

Tip it out

ultrabunny 12-30-2012 02:03 AM

You need to get it out of the house!!!

Chuck it down the sink and replace with water if hubby will be angry maybe?

If I had vodka in the house..it would only be a matter of time...!!

mazza 12-30-2012 02:06 AM

Ill replace it with water in the morning. heading to bed shortly. Can't believe I was so stupid!

wpainterw 12-30-2012 02:13 AM

You can do this...If you pour out the booze

I'd throw the bottle out Mazza. Just looking at it,even full of water could be tempting

Dee74 12-30-2012 02:22 AM

Your peace of mind must be worth more than $40 Maz?

Someone recently gave me a bottle of champagne. It sat in my fridge and my
mind was racing with flashbacks of what drinking cold champagne could be like.

I contemplated selling it online. Or pouring it out.

In the end the best solution was to take the bottle out unopened to the outdoors trashbin. I don't like tipping out alcohol. Makes you have to smell it etc. which may trigger something...

mytime66 12-30-2012 03:10 AM

I think myself and many others are very worried for you at this moment. Please please think it through before you open the freezers. You don't need that drink now or ever. You got sober for a reason. Remember that reason. I also think you should call someone else to come sit for a spell. Do what ever but don't touch it.

aasharon90 12-30-2012 03:19 AM

In early recovery I removed all those
souviniers I collected while drinking.
Wine glasses, Hurricane glasses, giggers,
empty wine bottles of a special ocassion,
etc. Having all those items to remind me
of the good and bad memories of alcohol
had to be thrown out. Even those out of
sight out of mind items had to be gone.

Over the past 22 yrs sober and even today,
all those pretty bottle wrapped up in disguise
still have the word poison written across
the front to remind me that that is exactly
what is in each of those bottles.

Poison, temptation is forever lurking,
ready to strike, destroy, kill, take
away all the joys life has to offer us.

Some say the first drink is only the natural end of a relapse, that it actually begins earlier.

If you were to look back over your latest 2 week stretch of not drinking, is there any point that stands out to you as a beginning?

bi11fish 12-30-2012 04:58 AM

Pour it out throw away the bottle and get honest with yourself and your husband.--Oh yeah if you replace it with water and put back in freezer you may break the bottle---this is from personal experience when I was trying to hide how much I drank by replacing vodka with water--- Wat was I thinking?

Xune 12-30-2012 05:43 AM

If I told my wife to get me a bottle of vodka, she'd leave me.

I was explicitly clear, should I ever drink again, there is to be no discussion, she is to leave me. She is to leave me, as I have chosen alcohol over her and the kids.

After you dump the vodka, have a chat with your husband about how important staying sober is to the both of you.

MsJax 12-30-2012 06:17 AM

If you want to be sober, dump it!!! $40 is NOTHING in relation to living sober. I see you have a marathon logo as your profile! What a great goal. I've done several 1/2's, and drinking vodka had nothing to do with then.

I hope you can talk honestly with your husband. I could not live with someone who was mad because I didn't drink a bottle of vodka :(. I cannot imagine being successfully sober with my doc in the freezer.

Best wishes to you, mazza.

After your last relapse, you were asked by Dee what your plan was. You didn't have one then. You don't appear to have one now. When you make it through this current patch of trouble, cobble some plan together that will prevent you from bringing alcohol into the house. Then tell your husband.

Good luck, you need it.

Pondlady 12-30-2012 07:28 AM

$40 vs. sobriety? Besides......this $40 will rapidly become, $80, $120 and on and on.......

I agree 40$ is nothing compared to what it represents, it cost $9500 to bury my wife.

If your husband gets mad at you for wasting $40, ask him how much it's going to cost to bury you.

foodie1 12-30-2012 09:37 AM

Oh Mazza, get rid of it!! Have you talked with your husband about sobriety? About never drinking again? Sounds like it's time to get really honest with him, and with yourself. Hugs and prayers to you :grouphug:
