Like anything, it helps as much as you allow it to help. Awareness and wisdom and support and solace are all around us. It's what we allow in that can have an effect.

There is much to be found here if you look for it. Hope you find it.

Its helped me.
I have 320 days today without a drink.
I found I could come here when I was down, when I was lonely, when I was sad, when I needed advice and information.

It might be that you need more than just here but we are a good start.
Why not read posts in the newcomers section and post a bit more about yourself whenever you are ready.

I am happy you are here

xxxx

Welcome. Yes it does help. The first thing for me was opening up my eyes and seeing I was not the only one fighting the fight. Sure feels good to be able to be around others whenever you need to be. Good luck and keep reading.

Welcome to SR wanttobesober, yes it helps! imho, the one thing that seems to be a common thread for people with long-term sobriety is being around other recovering alcoholics/addicts. For me that means AA, but there's lots of options available to suit your needs. SR is a great place to share, learn, vent and get help through the tough times. Glad you're here!!

Welcome to SR! I have found this site to be a huge help!!! Today is 79 days for me, the longest I have been sober in my adult life, not counting my three pregnancies. Post and read a lot in the beginning. It is amazing how quickly you will connect with people and want to check in to see how they are doing.

Welcome to the family, wanttobesober. It definitely helped me to find the courage to stop. I wasn't alone anymore, & that was huge.

I hope you'll keep reading and posting here. We want to help.

It helps to see that other people are struggling with the same problems and that you're not a freak or a defective person, you're like a lot of other people who simply have a problem with alcohol. Also it's helpful to see where the cycle of constant boozing leads, in the end, if that's a reality to which you've been able to turn a blind eye. And people are supportive here. A lot of drunks don't really know anybody they can talk to about their alcohol problems, so it can be a very lonely place.

So yeah, it's helpful for a lot of reasons. And if you're here reading, then maybe you're not out there drinking, and that's good, too.
