Really wanting to become sober

I have lost so much and did not believe alcohol was the reason, even though many people were telling me so including my family. They were right and I am finally ready to have alcohol out of my life.

Thanks. My plan is this site, the smart site and AA meetings. I'm new at this, still trying to learn the site and how it works! Right now my hands are shaking so badly I can hardly type. I've been to rehab twice but was really not ready to stop drinking. But after my husband of 21 years divorced me, I lost my house and children. I'm tired of being sick and I am definitly ready and commited now. It iss going to be hard but I really want to be free of the grip of alcohol.

Welcome changenow! You can do this. I drank all my life & never thought I could do without it. There is life after alcohol - you will be much happier when you get free from the grips of it.

As you read and post on SR, I hope you'll find the hope and encouragement that I did. I had been so afraid to get started, but when I found I wasn't alone it made all the difference. You can do it & we can help.

I feel for you - loosing your kids and home and husband must be the worse.

But you can turn it around and make a better life for yourself.

I have worked hard at stopping drinking.
Apart from AA and here, I found changing my routines helped in a big way.
I have a three year old so I cannot attend many meetings at night when she is in bed.
So I knew I had to get busy to change my usual pattern of vodka, favourite glass, sofa, television, pass out in bed.

I read here loads.
I became engrossed in recovery and addiction.
I cleaned and organised my house.
I had a lot of early nights and drank a lot of hot chocolate.
I sorted junk and unwanted stuff for car boot sales and made quite a bit of cash.
I got in touch with friends.
I read a lot of magazines and books.
I have a beauty routine now!

All these things got me out of my routine of drinking all night.
Now I can honestly say, sitting around boozing all night would make me feel strange. It's just not what I do anymore.

All this has got me 320 days without a drink!
I feel more excited about what I can achieve.

I think you can do it too xxxxxx
