It didnt get any better.

Hello everyone. I was fairly active on this site six months ago, but I had gone back out drinking since then. Ive been sober since 12/17....all I can say is it does not get any better. I am a full blown alcoholic, and Ive proved it yet again. There is not such thing as controlled drinking for me. After I take the first one, there is no turning back. I just want to keep on drinking. Thankfully Ive come out of this fairly intact, and, god willing, I can make it stick this time.

Anyway, I hope everyone had a good Christmas, and I look forward to visiting these forums often and getting to know all the terrific people here.

Welcome back !

I too had many dangerous tangos with alcohol.

Not until I admitted and ACCEPTED the fact that I am powerless, and can NEVER drink again - things started to get better.

Glad you are back.

I am convinced that for me even a couple of drinks sets me off, to some degree of unsatisfactory drinking. For some, light drinking is only marginally better than heavy drinking, with the latter always a distinct possibility....

Thanks for the encouraging words everyone. One thing that always struck me about this community is that no posts go unanswered or unreplied to for very long. Its pretty awesome.

I'm so glad you came back, gunther. You sound really ready this time. I made many half-hearted attempts at quitting. I always ended up telling myself I just needed to use willpower & I could still have a few from time to time. As if. One would always lead to the whole bottle, then another bottle. Then drinking the next day.

I had to admit it wasn't fun anymore - it was doing nothing for me. I think I always chased the past euphoria - and those days were long gone. It was poison to me, and brought me nothing but misery.

I'm glad you're here to try again. We know you can do it - and have a new life.

Welcome back, Gunther! Thank you for saying that it doesn't get any better out there...that is something I have to always be told. I get forgetful sometimes and begin to wonder. We all know what that leads to. lol What is your plan for staying sober?

The great obsession of every alcoholic is that they can drink normally. That is not the case. It would be great if we learned that right away!! I did not and it took a lot of "research" for me to admit. I have a few 24 hours now and I know I am not going back. You are always welcome back here, hell I was on this site under a whole different name I came back!! You can do this one day at a time!
