New And Falling Down Drunk
I was sober for a good length of time. The past summer I had a beer at a county fair. Soon enough it was to chugging gin and beer. The last week was a wakeup call. I rarely drive drunk and never have had a DWI. But I slipped on ice and ended up on the sidewalk of the village hall/police station. I quickly sneaked away and found out the next morning it was towed and ticketed. Of course, they suspect drunken driving and gave me the third degree when I went to get a release form. Now I'm afraid to drive in my small town. I will use this minor accident as a wakeup call for sure. Its so cold to go out to the liquor store so I had to drive and fear if I drink I will end up driving again.
Welcome Turninganewleaf! I think you'll find it very helpful to be here with us. This is a great & supportive place.
I've had dui's and went through hell to get everything straightened out. I hope you won't put yourself in that dangerous position. That's one reason why I had to stop drinking - I could not trust myself when it was in my system.
I hope you'll consider getting sober again - it sounds like you're ready. Glad to have you join us.

I hope I am. I made it through detox and the holidays will seem to be a bit too tempting for me. I am 86'd from the nearby taverns for obnoxious behavior. I really have to make a effort just to purchase the alcohol. The nearest shop is by the police station.
You are wise to stop before you get a DUI. I have 2, the second occured almost a year ago, I had house arrest, fines, random drug tests for months, years more of expensive insurance and probation as well as 15 months more of a interlock device on my car.
Oh, and staying sober vastly improves all areas of your life, there's that too.
