Hello All, New to the forum
Well, I think I have this in the right spot?
Hello everyone, I just joined this site, and I am not new to sobriety, I have been Sober for the past 6 years now, and I heard of this site from a fellow poster from another site that I belong to.
I have searched before for a place Online that I could join so I can share just how far I have come along since I took my last drink. It seems like such a long time ago.
My hope is that I may meet some fellow Native Americans such as myself who may need that support to get through their addictions. I know what it is like, but it is not the end of the world, you can and will get through it if you have the desire.
Looking forward to meeting new friends, because even at 6 years I am still one drink away from returning to that dark place. And even I need the proverbial kick in the butt.

Welcome MasterScorpio - it's wonderful to have you here.
Congratulations on your 6 sober years - that's fantastic. We'd love to hear more about your journey. I'm coming up on 5 years myself, which I never dreamed would happen.

I feel that way too. We never know who is reading - who we're helping. I remember crawling in here shaky and terrified. The words I read brought me through - not right away, but I gathered the courage to reach out for a new life - and eventually took action.
Thank you for caring, MS.

I think one the good things about me is that I really am not all that religious. I have been to my fair share of AA meetings where religion was force fed to us. That is so totally not me. I like to speak honestly, because the road to sobriety is not an easy one. The fact I made it to 6 years and I observed folks with more time then me relapse really scared the beejeezus out of me. That made it real.
Finding people who I can relate with is a help.

Welcome to the Forum.
Six years makes my 5 weeks look a bit sick (lol)
There have been longer hauls over 50 years of drinking.
Now its day by day, total committment and keeping up the guard.

It wasn't easy. The Native American side of my family has battled alcoholism for as long as I can remember. And I fell right into the mix. It didn't hit me until my second d.u.i, then I had to make a decision for myself, no one was going to do it for me. I hit the bottom and had to be a big boy and get through it. I have done well, I still don't have my license back yet, but it is a work in progress hopefully someday.
One of the hobbies I picked up was genealogy. I love that stuff. Especially working on my Native Heritage.

I've met 2 terrific Native Americans. William Least Heat Moon, who wrote 'Blue Highways', and the other Jerry Ellis, who wrote 'Walking The Trail'. Both at book signings. Jerry is Cherokee. William's Osage (plus Irish, English & others).

Welcome To SR Masterscorpio. Congrats on 6 years - awesome. I will be 100 days on Dec 27. I have been to Reservations before on a number of occasions for work and I saw first hand the challenges these fine people face on a daily basis. I trully enjoy working with the Native Ameicans. I never drank while visiting the Reservations. Hope to chat someday!
Hey masterscorpio, half Navajo indian here. Impressive amount of sober days my friend. Yeah, duis...sheesh. i have 3 under my nelt and have had one of those interlock devices during my 20s (I am 27 today).
But lessons learned, the blackouts are what get me into deep water like all of us. Yeah I notice newcomers almost everyday who can use some support and knowledge. Me being one for sure. Thanks for signing up! Keep in touch.
