I am new to this site. I really like to relax in the evening with wine. I want to replace drinking with something else. Looking for suggestions. Thanks!

Hi mary, welcome to SR.

If you're having a difficult time stopping the wine, you've found the right place! You'll find a lot of support here from people that are going through or have gone through what you are right now.

Finding things to occupy our time is pretty common. Personally, I used AA for support and to occupy my time. I've met some great, life-long friends there ..... plus I was able to actually stay stopped and my life is much, much better.

There's a book that I found helpful early on ..... it's called Living Sober. There's some great suggestions in it.

Glad you found us.

Welcome Mary :)

I used alcohol for stress relief too - and for many other things.
I find exercise is a good way to de-stress now.

Have you tried to stop drinking before?

Mary, you will find a few of us on this site who liked to unwind with wine in the evenings. I developed quite a love affair with wine over the years. Then I realised that instead of helping me to relax it was causing all sorts of problems in my life.

You will find lots very valuable information on SR on how to stop drinking wine. Good luck.

Hi Mary

Trying to find something to do to wind down after a busy day without drinking wine can be tricky.

On weekdays I drank wine pretty much from knock off (4pm - sometimes later depending on if I had to taxi the kids around) till I dropped into bed (10pm or later). On weekends the only time restrictions were if I had to drive the kids somewhere.

Some of the things I do to during old these drinking times that help me relax and wind down are:
  • drink copious amounts of herbal tea camomile)
  • SR chat
  • eat chocolate
  • eat icecream
  • SR chat
  • more herbal tea
  • bubble bath
  • massage
  • read
  • post on SR
  • read other people's posts on SR
  • regular exercise
  • SR chat
  • drink nice juices
  • I haven't done AA meetings but I feel I should write it here :)
  • read AA big book (you can download it)
  • ring sober friends

I have found the more sober time I have ... the more relaxed I become and I usually sleep like a baby.

Stick close with SR

All the best
