wanting more information for booze

hey everyone, I am in that place where I know I need to quit drinking. Just keep putting it off. I am at the point where my appetite is really affected in that I just dont eat. I guess I can be put in the category of the night drinker. Throughout the day I never drink, untill about after 6 or 7, then just dont stop until I go to bed. And yes, ashamed to admit, the glass is normally by my bedstand even. It's gotten to the point where I just feel like a POS. Any help?

Do you want to stop drinking alcohol entirely?

Hi Mully
welcome to SR

'I know I need to quit drinking' sounds pretty clear to me and it's a good place to start

You'll find a lot of support here - join our 'Class of December' thread for those who are also quitting this month - you'll find it in this forum.

If you're interested in recovery programmes like AA or a non 12 step alternative I can give you links to those too

Seeing your Dr can also be a good first step - detox can sometimes be problematic for some of us

thanks for the replies, I may look into AA or a non 12 step program if my attempts fail. D you quoting me was awesome, that is so true. It is just the nights that kill me, the "I'll stop after this one" and then I use that more times throughout the night. Xune, I am not sure, but I know that I want to take a break from it for a few months, because I do like to have a casual drink with friends or when going on dates..

Welcome Mully! Keep reading and posting. I'm new here too and SR has been a tremendous help. I don't think I'd be here (Day 6) without them.

I could never drink in moderation. I tried on numerous occasions spanning over a period of years. I had to quit drinking entirely for any type of recovery to be successful. There are many different methods you can chose to do this. A lot of people have a look at lots of diferrent recovery methods and programs before committing to one. I personally go to NA and AA.

Thanks for the post. I think I am going to try my own tonight. This is my first attempt. I have thrown around the idea of AA, and it truly does sound like something I would get into. I really just want to know how I am going to be able to fall asleep tonight! ha! man I feel like such a loser

You need 5 posts for PM (Private Messaging) privileges - you should be good to go now

A break is always a good idea if you're unsure.

I've never heard of anyone 'resetting' themselves with a break, and then drinking in a different (controlled) way forever after that - I really don't think it works like that for the vast majority of us Mully.

I think you will find that emptying the fridge of alcohol would be really helpful. And, I'm glad you are here seeking support.

a mix of peppermint and valerian tea helped me to fall asleep at first, along with Melatonin taken according to the directions on the bottle.
