6 days sober

My story:

I have been a heavy since my early twenties. Had multiple relationships where the boyfriend would drink pints of beer, whiskey you name it.

Been in a severe accident in Thailand that nearly took my life. (I was drunk at the time).

Did that change? Nope... fast forward 10 years and still "hiding" my wine bottles and beer cans.

My current boyfriend had alcoholic parents, and thank God he is not a drinker.

He has told me the only think that will break us apart would be my drinking. Did that stop me? Nope... until 6 days ago.

A couple weeks ago I was rear ended and what did I do? Went out and got 2 bottles of wine just to pass out and not able to deal with it like a "normal" person would.

So, being sick for 4 days and in bed, not eating, sweating, avoiding everyone, I made the decision. This is ENOUGH! I am better than this. I have a great job, own my own home- why I am hurting myself and others?

Day 6 is good so far, waking up without a pasty taste in my mouth and hungover.

Thanks to these forums I realize that I am not alone. Thanks for all your support and I will get through this.

Things to help me cope: finding ways to ease my boredom; not using booze as a crutch during a stressful event, start to really enjoy the things I do.

I can relate to your feelings..

Those first days can be so ugly. But remember them because if your like me .. I am a quick forgetter. And I would get " to well to fast" as they say. And feel like I could control something that is totally out of control.

Glad your here with us. I hope you look to a program to help you learn to live with out the bottle. Its a lot more than quitting drinking..

good for you!! the waking up part does truly differ between the drinking and non-drinking times LOL i would always wake up and be praying every single morning "please God help me with this" and it's nice nice nice not to have to do that anymore. my discussions with God are more about gratitude nowadays.
welcome to the board
