Vitamins to take
i am on day 4 and just passed it an hour ago. Can some folks give me suggestions of supplements i should be taking to help. I start in outpatient rehab on Thursday but i am trying to get a head start. Thanks for any suggestions
I just took a basic multi.
I know we want to feel better as soon as possible but generally our minds and bodies are recuperating for a reason...it takes time most of all
Also, whats worked for some is not always good for others.
I recommend you check with your Dr or your pharmacist for a definitive answer, especially if you have other health issues or are on other meds Husker

Hi
I have been taking a vitamin B complex, vitamin C, a multi-vitamin along with Evening Primrose, a liver complex and Kudzu.
The Evening Primrose was recommended as an essential Omega that helps alcoholics during recovery.
The Kudzu was recommended to aid with cravings.
This is my path. I am seeing a Naturopathic doctor that is helping me.
I am also going to start Tai Chi for movement/meditation therapy.
Oh and lots and lots of water!!!!

I am taking a multi vitamin, vitamin B12, D and Folic Acid, but these are vitamins the doctor told me to take before quitting. My vitamin D level was low, I have 60 days now, I am going to make an appointment to check the level again.
I would talk to your doctor to see what they think.

be sure to take a folic acid supplement in addition to a good multivitamin. also, you probably want to get some low sodium V8 and drink that up to get your electrolytes back in balance. don't bother trying to take a potassium supplement or anything. they don't make them strong enough over the counter to be worth a damn. drink low sodium V8 though. good stuff.
I take an old persons multivitamin with minerals, lol.
It seems to help balance me out. I think alcoholics get all out of whack, with everything from vitamins and minerals to electrolytes.
If you aren't overdoing it, making sure your body has extra whatever it might need could be helpful.

I second the fresh fruits and veggies particurly dark leafy greens. You might want to get some tests done to see what you are deficient in. Most people ( not only alcoholics) are vitamin D deficient. This is an important vitamin that is very hard to get naturally so unless you are eating a lot of sardines and other oily fish and getting a regular tan then you are most likely deficient. I take vitamin d and drink milk thistle tea ( good for your liver) every day.

your body is likely screaming for carbs right now. it misses them. i'm not a doctor and don't have an opinion on supplements, but i've found that a high protein diet has helped. i still eat carbs, but the protein helps me feel fuller longer and keeps my brain working well throughout the day.
