I am a drunk loser and everyone knows it
Look at it this way, New Hope: Consider each day a challenge, a possible work of art, a major achievement. Just each day. Your objective is not to drink. Just that. Nothing else. But to help accomplish that objective, get as much help as you can, professional and also from groups of recovering alcoholics, AA or something else. Focus on each day. Get a bunch of gold stars or stickers to stick on the fridge. Put one on the fridge for each day you finish sober. Make sure some other recovering alcoholics know what progress you're making. If you have problems, slips, etc. talk it over with them. Figure out, if you can, what made you slip. And try not to repeat that. Build up some confidence, some expertise in doing this, one day at a time and eventually you'll get the hang of it. It's the biggest, the most important journey you'll ever take.

you are "waking up" to a sober lifestyle.
it took me years to figure it out ... and i'm still "getting it". many failed attempts, many attempts at moderation... and then something changes.
you are here. this is the most important step.
