hi all
I dont know what to do...I do Ok with no booze, for a while. But if a relapse, it's scary. I tried to go to AA, but I hate it, it gets me depressed....a lot. I really dont want to loose what I have, but I guess I am in denial...and it seems like everything is good, until I pick it up again. I never really gotten into any serious trouble (besides quitting dead end jobs), but I am thinking this will eventually backfire...hard.
May be it's not a right thread to post to...but I am new to this place (my wife reads this forum during those scary times)...and I am running of hope.
I would really appreciate all of your suggestions.
Gracias!

Welcome niks, when I first found these forums and started reading it was a real eye opener how many people are/have been in your exact same situation (myself included). Different lengths of abstaining winding up with a 'small' amount I'll be able to keep a handle on, that winds up just getting worse and worse. I just assumed my situation was obviously different than anybody else (no way anyone else relapses every 8-10 days like clockwork, forever). Then I found here and realized this was actually one of the more common situations, and that many people were currently going through the exact same thing I have been.
Hi Niks - welcome
There are other alternatives to AA that may be of use to you...
here's some links to some of the main players:
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...formation.html
I recommend you visit the Secular Connections forum if you think you may benefit from a non 12 step approach.
I understand about hating things and being depressed - it seemed that most things I tried in the beginning I hated. My addiction liked it that way.
Hope you can find something here

Hi Niks and welcome to SR!
All of the above have offered good advice and you do have many options.
Could you clarify what you mean by (my wife reads this forum during those scary times)? I interpret that as she's freaking out while you're drinking? I dunno, I could be wrong.
Stick around here, read and talk to us - there is a solution if you do really want to stop drinking.
Good luck!

Keep an open mind with AA - it seems depressing at first (i am only just getting into it now!) but there is much to be learned there. I feel that if it's been around since the 1930s, it can't be too terrible!
