Hi everyone.. am 2 wks sober finding it a bit difficult today as its my late dad's birthday... My dad was an alcoholic and passed away from his drinking i was with him all through the end :( it was the hardest time in my life.
Over the last few years i've been drinking more and more but most times i drink i black out i don't know what i'm doing r what i'm saying and end up feeling horrible for days afterwards.
just needed to get that out there...

Welcome,

We have lots of support to offer here so feel free to look around and get to know us. We use different types of recovery programs but we all have the same goal, which is to recover.

Sorry to hear about your father. Sounds like you could use all the support you can get. I’m not sure what is making it difficult for you to get to meetings but it might be worth the extra effort. Transportation might not be an issue if you can find people attending to car pool with. Call your local AA office and see what they might suggest. Lots of online support here as well.

There's always someone around here, and dI agree that you staying sober is a great way to honour your dad.

You know, I've been trying to quit drinking for years and it gets worse and worse. One thing I never believed was that going to meetings helps you. getting a sponsor helps you. True surrender helps you. I've FINALLY started making these things a priority and I'm on day 34. it's a different kind of sobriety this time - happiness instead of dry drunk insanity.

I would recommend listening to all the others for whom AA worked. Do not drink and get to meetings, no matter what. It helps. Trust me. :)

Welcome to SR, this is a great site! You will find lots of support on here. Also, if you are new check out Anna's book thread. I really liked "Diary of an Alcoholic Housewife" and Caroline Knapp's "Drinking, a love Story"
