Hi, new to forum & not drinking

Hello everyone. I'm trying to get through today without a drink. So far it's been about 2 hours since the time of day i usually start drinking. seems like a long 2 hours. i've been drinking for 35 years (I'm 50 now) with a brief stop while i was pregnant, and i've been drinking 1/4 to 1/3 liter of gin a day for about the last 6 months, and if i don't quit it's going to kill my stomach. but i'm a bit afraid of losing my mind without the booze ....

i hope this is a good place to talk & listen.

I was taking things one hour at a time on Day 1, Day 2 was okay, I was really busy and convinced I didn't have a problem, Day 3 I derailed and nearly lost my mind, but didn't drink...now it's Day 4 and I'm in full hate mode. Bad mood, want to drink, defiant etc...back to taking things one hour at a time.

35 years is a long time...I also have stomach problems, and any more alcohol will really mess me up. You can do this, just keep doing things one hour at a time...it's not easy, but you can do it!

Thank you all for your good wishes. i'm not so much afraid of the physical withdrawal as afraid of myself sober -- dislike of that person was probably what got me started (that and my family of drunks!

-- i used to like my drunk self but now it's all just pretty lonely and full of pain guilt & lies.

Drank a fifth a day for 20 years + assorted drugs. It can be done and you will do it!

Thirty years drinking? You don't even know yourself sober. Time to get acquainted. I think you'll like what you find.

Welcome Courage

It is a little daunting for sure - but you're not alone here.
I got sober after 20 years - I haven't regretted it for a minute

you can certainly do it. you have the chance to be sober and love it... i really don't think you'll have any regrets (maybe that you haven't done it sooner).

thank you! my brain is playing crazy tricks on me -- like i just actually did 1/2 hour of work & so i should reward myself with a drink. i can't tell you how many days i've woken up saying "day 1" and bought a bottle on the way to the office....
