One thing that really surprised me about recovery, is: how life makes much more sense now... I remember everything now... and one thing logically leads to another.

Before I felt such a victim of randomness, never seeing how I was causing that feeling by drinking.

One thing that really surprised me about recovery is that it's a daily journey. All the tools I used to get sober have to become a permanent part of my life. I can't just accumulate a certain amount of sober time and become "cured".

The one thing i've found about recovery that it's suprising how totally it's changed everything in my life without seemingly changing very much if you viewed it from outside .

Bestwishes, M

What surprised me was that it was not going back. I thought recovery would be going back to the life I had for 35 years before becoming an addict.

But it was not about going back...it was about going forward and changing.

One thing that really surprises me about sobriety is how much I treasure it.

I am totally surprised that the life I always wanted is in fact the one I had all along. Take the alcohol away, and I can see what I've actually got rather than what I haven't!

I am really surprised that nobody knew I had a problem!!!
And my problem was BIG. I kept it secret. I guess people just thought I was mean and hateful. Lol

That I actually have a brain. And thoughts. And I can enjoy life sober. (And it's only day one). I can't wait until all of the brain fog is gone.

One thing that really surprised me about Recovery is that if you stick with continuous abstinence the cravings and AV go away!!!

One thing that REALLY surprised me about recovery is that my SO no longer stomps off incommunicado but sits firm and works it out.

One thing that really surprises me about Recovery is that it is forcing me to face the problems I was avoiding by drinking. It forces me to get unstuck and that starts my personal growth going again.

One thing that really surprised me about Recovery, is:
that there are so many stages of it to go through, once you quit.
