Hi all, This is my first time joining a group. Ive have been an alcoholic for at least 15 years. Ive given up plenty of times but always felt better and thought I knew best. Im close to losing my beautiful child and lovely fiancee. Im not letting this monster beat me and take all I have. Im on day 2 and last nights sleep or should i say lay on the bed in complete cold sweats was terrible. Hope someone writes.
Hi and welcome Trickly
You'll find a lot of support here
I drank for 20 years - SR helped me turn my life around.
I know we can help you do the same too
Have you got any idea of a plan on how to stay sober?

Welcome Tricky,
Be kind to yourself, you've been sick and need to take a little time to recover from what is a deadly disease.
Have faith that you can get and stay sober. The proof is out there in front you with people doing it on a daily basis
Keep posting and sharing how it feels

Hi tricky
I'm in the UK too, not too far away from you.
It sounds like things are quite raw at the moment.
You never have to feel like this again - and all you have to do is not pick up that first drink. Then you cannot get drunk.
Struggling to sleep can be rough. It might just be a short term problem as you, like me, relied on booze for so long to sleep.
Check out tips on sleep hygiene. No caffeine from mid afternoon, warm bath, hot milky drink, make sure your bedroom is well ventilated and there is o computer or TV in there. If you cannot sleep get up and try reading for a bit, nothing too energetic, then try again.
Have you tried anything in the past?
AA, RR, SMART or AVRT?
It might be worth reading around this site and reading what has worked for others. I do a combination of AA and here.
Your fiance sounds angry and hurt. In time this might wear off.
However this raw feeling you have, this sense of upcoming loss and sadness will also probably wear off and that is when you need to be careful. That is when you might hear a little voice telling you that it's okay to drink, just the one. That voice is not real and it is dangerous. Come here and confide and let the experience here talk you out of it.
I am 280 days today.
At first it was not easy and I had to work at it.
I totally changed my routine from sitting every night drinking my own body weight in booze to staying sober.
I smashed my favourite glass.
I moved off the sofa and got busy.
I looked after myself by eating well and drinking lots of fluids.
My life is different now. To some it might seems dull, but I will take dullness everyday if it means I do not have to wake up hating myself and wanting to die due to the pain I caused others.
Will you keep coming here and sharing how you are doing please?
Xxx
