two weeks sober need help
My Name is Robbie and I am two weeks sober from alcohol. I am 20 years old and have been drinking heavily since 14. I have uncontrollable cravings to drink, and they will not stop. I have made it this far because I have an amazing girlfriend who has helped me these past two weeks. But I know I am gonna give into my cravings, this is the longest I have gone without having a drink. I had a dream the other night that I had a few drinks and felt drunk in my dream. It felt so real and now all I can think about is drinking.
AA worked for me and many others. You may wish to give it a try. In early sobriety the only thing that helped the cravings was an AA meeting. You may also wish to try AVRT which can be found on SR. For myself, I simply could not do it on my own.

I have very vivid dreams as well. At first I had dreams of using, now I have dreams about taking a drink and feeling disappointed in myself. I actually had one this weekend where I ordered a beer and refused it at the table. I guess even my subconscious is in recovery now.
I have to echo what MIRecovery said, Meetings really help with cravings. Once you get though the initial stages there is a lot more to AA, but for now, just being around like-minded people will help. You don't have to believe anything to attend AA, there are no dues or fees, and its there for the taking. You might, like me, find out there is something there for you.
Good luck.

Welcome to SR Robbie
Cravings won't kill you if you don't give in to them They may seem intense sometimes but they are not constant. If you dismiss them they will go away but if you focus on the drink it will make them worse. Distraction helped me with cravings, especially the really intense ones, as did stuff like 'Urge surfing' and thinking the drink through. In fact the only way to make the cravings go away is to not drink! If you drink again you will just get stuck in that cycle.
Glad you're here x

Robbie I would recommend coming to these forums when you get the urge to reach for the bottle. In the Alcoholism forum you will read a ton of sage advice from people just like you who kicked the habit once and for all. The readings will remind of reasons you wanted to quit in the first place. And, why you don't want to start from the beginning. A bunch of us here are in the same boat, and I agree the fear of failure is real but.....what you are doing is not impossible. The evidence shows that if you Obsess About Sobriety you will succeed. It's all about sacrifice, desire and not denying yourself what is most important. Can you do that?
Hi Robbie,
Getting through the cravings that come along will help you. Each time, it should be a little bit easier. Hang in there, and do whatever it takes for you to stay sober.

Hi Robbie
I think support can really help
I encourage you to join our Class of November thread in this forum - lots of support there
There's many different approaches and methods of recovery around in 'real life' too- here's some links to some of the main players:
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...formation.html
I recommend you visit the Secular Connections forum if you think you may benefit from a non 12 step approach.

Well I made it! I feel very positive this morning that I made it. Yesterday was extremely stressful. I had a night class which helped me not think about drinking. Thank you to all that posted. I have been reading blog entries and will start one myself. Here is to the first of many weeks sober!
