Hello my name is James and I have been an alcoholic for about 6 years now.
My daily routine is basically me waking up, going online, playing video games and then going to the gym before work. After work I go home and I drink alone. I feel healthy and very strong. I am 29 years old but luckily I don't look my age. I still get carded at the liquor store and my shrink thought I was 20, hah. Now I know I can't keep going on like this, so I chose to get help for myself.
I drink about 750ml of whiskey a night, 7 days a week. I am 6 feet tall and weigh about 210 pounds. I was wondering if I would need to see a doctor before I go cold turkey for more than a week. I have done it before but it only lasted about 2 days...I didn't have much withdraw, just minor headaches and the urge to kill anyone I heard talking in the background. lol.
Any help would be great, thanks.

Well i'm in a pickle then, because I can't see my doctor until monday and I wanted to start attending AA meetings tomorrow night. Would it be pointless to start going to meetings if I was still drinking the night before and then drinking after a meeting?

How would you get to the meeting if you are still drinking? You can't drive!
Stay with us on SR for the weekend, safe at home. Don't drink too much.
Go see your md Monday.
Nourish yourself.
There is much you can to at home to get started.
You can start to listen to AA speakers talk about step one of the AA program since you already said you are open to AA.
You could start with this Sandy B. Saturday Morning group step one...
XA-Speakers - The lights are on!
You can start reading the book Alcoholics Anonymous today.
Big Book On Line
Hint: The chapters are in order for a reason. Start at the beginning.
Get yourself a notebook and pen, and start writing out how you can relate with the Doctor's Opinion.
Can you identify?
I really think you would get alot out of listening to AA speakers this weekend...
Helping new people over the weekend with words of encouragement is something you can do as well.
We can encourage without being perfect.

Hi James
I'm with Anna - I think a Dr is the most responsible way to go.
I don't think attending an AA meeting would be pointless. I'm not in AA but if you have a desire to stop drinking I believe that's all that required

Thank you all so much for the help and support. I do not drink during the daytime, only at night. And I usually don't get into my car until the afternoon, just to be safe. Drinking and driving is one thing I absolutely despise!
