First sober social function

Happy sober Friday. This will be my 4th sober weekend and I have my first social event since being sober that will involve alcohol. It is not a party or anything like that but one of my friends is a race car driver and I am going to his race on Saturday. I know at least one of my former "drinking buddies" will be there. I have opted out of car pooling or being the designated driver so that I can leave at anytime if it is all too much for me. I don't mind being around moderate drinkers, many spectators will be drinking, but it's the old drinking buddies that I know will probably get on me about not drinking "oh come on..are you really not drinking?..for old times sake..you can have just one...one drink wont hurt you". I'm just going to say No, I am not drinking and hopefully they will respect.

I'd be surprised if your buddy notices or cares. But if they are insistent, stay firm.

Enjoy the race.

I believe that 'No, thanks', should work in any situation.

Enjoy yourself.

You'll be fine. I had my first social thing tonight. A friend's 40th that I arranged before I decided to quit! 'No thanks' served me well tonight and after they had a few they didn't even notice.

Enjoy the racing

4 weeks in - is too soon to be around hard drinking buddies. It was for me anyway....

I gave myself good 6 months of solid sobriety before engaging in any activities that had people drinking... Especially people I used to party with.

Good luck to you !
