I am in a similar situation, and understand the challenges. Work home alone and not a lot of social life. In fact I haven't been a day sober since I started (tonight is the first night though!) in June because I think my biggest motivator in drinking is routine + boredom. I used to get drunk because I had nothing better to do, then I had nothing to do for a lot of nights, and it became a habit.

Anyway I digress--when I quit for a few days 6 months ago, I was working at a really stressful job in an office, in an open cube environment surrounded by co-workers. I told myself at the time it was going to be really difficult dealing with the withdrawals (anxiety, confusion, etc.) and still do my job without anyone noticing I was different. Even tougher was it was a sales job. It was definitely a challenge to mask the symptoms of withdrawal.

For me, I've got all alcohol stuff out of the house. I'm coming up with things to keep busy, like reading or playing chess online or whatever can just totally consume my brain and get me to forget about drinking until it's time to sleep.

I found sobriety, fellowship, sanity and serenity in Alcoholics Anonymous. Might just be the ticket for you as well.

All the best.
