No I Can't

So I stopped drinking about 14 years ago. I did not have a drop for 7 years. During that time we had kids. Not living with huge highs and lows, but very fortunate, everybody healthy, etc. About 7 years ago I went on business to Scotland. I thought, of course I can have some Guiness in Scotland. At that point I really didn't even remember why I stopped drinking. I couldn't remember what a hangover felt like, or guilt, or a craving to have one more. I could not have been more separated from any feelings related to drinking. All the hurdles had been crossed long ago. So, I came back from my trip and decided I would start drinking 'just beer' again. That was 7 years ago and now I am to the point where, on Monday, I was googling 'how long do alcohol cravings last' and thankfully SR appeared at the top. Eventually, you will feel awesome again. Maybe next week, maybe next year. If you find yourself thinking maybe my drinking wasn't that bad and maybe I could just drink socially, or just drink a few, remember this. Yes it was that bad, no you can't, no I can't. Day 5 done.

That's very good that you were able to stop yourself. Keep it up.

I needed this post.
I have these thoughts every once and a while.. Though logic wins out most times.
But sometimes I think.. "Well, when I go to Italy in the future, I can have a couple of glasses of wine there.. I can't go to Italy without trying the wine!"
As if I haven't tried enough wine.

And I know that's ridiculous.
Clearly not ready to plan a trip to Italy.
Lol.

I have to talk myself out if certain things as well. Still avoiding walking down the wine aisle in the grocery store, and hate that the far bottles are all over the darn store for the holidays.

casmasta I'm glad that helps. The scariest part of this for me is that I didn't start drinking again because of temptation or a craving. I started drinking again because I forgot.

Cunning, baffling and powerful...Scary. I had a lady in a meeting two days ago that had 16 years sober. Thought it would be OKAY to have a few...She had just got out of detox and rehab and was ready to start again. Haven't met one yet that said it was better this time..Congrats on 5 days!!
